The Inside Track
The working hours in Austria in general are 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day. Some companies have collective agreements that the working week will be 38 hours.
It is not legally required, but if the employee has this term in the employment contract he/she will receive a 13th or 14th month bonus, that is typically paid on Christmas or upon the employee’s vacation leave.
The vacation leave is 5 weeks/ 25 days per year for employees who are working 6 continuous months.
The length of time for which an employee will receive pay depends on seniority and type of employment and with this a medical certificate may be required.
Pregnant employees get a maternity leave of 16 weeks that are split before and after birth.
