In Azerbaijan, the typical working day consists of 8 hours a day, 5 days a week with two days off. The day before national holidays, voting days and national mourning days, the working day should be reduced by one hour.
Generally, employees in Azerbaijan are entitled to 21 days of vacation leave annually, whereas 2 weeks of leave should be taken together. Generally, employees are not entitled to leave during their first year of employment. Moreover, Azerbaijan celebrates 11 public holidays for which the employees are given days off. Public holidays that fall on a weekend are moved to the following Monday.
Azerbaijani mothers are entitled to 126 days of paid maternity leave - 70 days before and 56 days after the expected date of delivery. Maternity leave is paid by the State Social Protection Fund and equals 100% of the gross average monthly salary over the previous 12 months.
Azerbaijanis are entitled to sick leave which is covered by State Social Insurance, however, after four months the employee may be dismissed unless it’s the work that caused the sickness or the employee is on maternity leave.
