Hi Teodora! What can you tell us about yourself in a sentence or two?

Hi! My name is Teodora, I’m from Kocani, Macedonia and I’m a backend developer at Native Teams. I’m also the dev team lead on the Native Teams project. I would describe myself as a hard-working, detail-oriented and driven individual. I’m very passionate about my work and I’m able to easily adapt to changes, even when they come at the last minute.

What is your role within Native Teams and what do your daily tasks include?

My role as a team lead includes several responsibilities, but in general, I’m responsible for managing the technical aspects of the application development flow that I and my team are working on. I’m collaborating with the project managers and my team of developers on a daily basis in order to plan, develop, test and maintain web applications. My job also includes identifying different areas for improvement, analyzing and resolving application problems and participating in the collection of estimates and work plans.

What did you study & how did your career progress?

I graduated with my degree in Computer Science four years ago and I went to work for a small IT firm in Skopje in my third year of college. Working as an intern for the first three months while still in college made me realize that only by practising coding every day, I can become a good software developer. So I did, I’ve pushed myself to acquire more software development skills and to learn good coding practises and techniques from my senior colleagues. Eventually I started scanning the horizon for growth opportunities and that’s how I ended up at Native Teams. 🙂

What do you like the most about remote working?

As a developer, I prefer the quiet atmosphere of working from home. I’m able to stay more focused on my work and complete tasks quickly. But the best thing is that I get to know such a diverse group of people from all around the world.

And what are the downsides of remote working?

Just the lack of social interaction with the colleagues. However, being part of Native Teams I don’t miss this much because we often have teams buildings and after-work remote events

What makes Native Teams so special?

The team. The people I work with are creative, hard-working, caring, funny, simply amazing. Native Teams has explicit and challenging goals that motivate and engage all team members. We’ve built great teamwork and we’re looking forward to great achievements.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

I like to be fit and healthy so in my free time I usually exercise. But my form of exercise is dancing! I have always loved dancing because it fills my heart with joy and it’s just the best way to express myself. No matter how old I am, I will dance forever!

I usually spend the warm weekends hiking in the mountains, because I love to be out in the sun and away from the city. I also like to explore different cultures, so I take every opportunity in life to visit a different place in the world. I recently started learning Korean, so I guess my next stop is Korea. 😀

What would you recommend to anyone wanting to become a software developer?

To never give up! 😀 If you want to become a good software developer, never stop improving your skills. Your job is not just to write code, but to find answers to problems as well. So be an adaptable problem-solver who understands different technologies and techniques and knows when to use what. Having a broad skill set and a passion for problem-solving will make you more valuable to your team and bring you a successful career in software development.
