How does the salary calculator for Finland work?

The salary calculator for Finland estimates both gross and net earnings based on real payroll inputs. It starts with the gross salary, which includes base pay and any additional compensation.

Deductions are applied using employee-specific tax cards, which define the exact income tax rate used in payroll. In addition, the calculator includes mandatory employee and employer contributions such as pension, unemployment, and health insurance.

Once all deductions and contributions are applied, the calculator shows total employee contributions, net salary (take-home pay), and total employer costs.

  • Unemployment insurance (TVR): 0.31%
  • Health/social insurance (SaVa): 1.91%

How much tax do you pay in Finland?

What are the mandatory employee benefits in Finland?

Employees are entitled to 24–30 days of paid annual leave after one year of service. Those with less than one year accrue approximately 2.5 days per month worked.

A mandatory vacation bonus must also be paid when employees take leave. This is typically:

  • 50% of the employee’s gross salary,
  • Proportional to the number of vacation days taken in that month.

Maternity leave lasts up to 105 working days (starting 50 days before the due date), with benefits provided by Kela. Fathers can take up to 158 days of parental leave.
